phone set up lights out

First i was not told a phone was not included so all was set up. I went to sear bought a phone came back Plugged it into the far right, side just like i was told to .Everything on the phone set was done and i am waiting to finish charging the phone to program any vioce mails whatever . I am not getting on the phone screen a Number it says "NO number found "  Like i say all the lights on the modem or phone hook into box are out I see No on off swtich . looking through support says enter a Pin I never got one either for a test (Phone0 it is blank also up on my account screen .
