Packet loss and high latency
Hi,
I am suffering from dropped internet game connections and lag spikes and in order to diagnose, I have used my always on ARM computer to take measurements of the connection quality and graph them with Smokeping.
I see latency up to 3s for pings and significant amounts of packet loss. Both local devices are plugged into ports on the netgear router itself, there is no packet loss to the Drobo (first pic), 10% max packet loss to the router, 13% max packet loss to the remote gateway.
These figures from the cable stats page on the router look fine to me, but it looks as though most of the packet loss can be correlated to problems with the CG3000DCR.
Is "Residential Gateway" mode correct?

Router is Netgear CG3000DCR
3 connections at rear: 1) Airport Extreme wifi 2) ARM computer 3) Drobo
I have the Udoo set up to ping the Drobo, the Gateway IP, the Remote Gateway IP and several other hops using Smokeping.

Here's a speedtest I ran that shows how much of a problem this is:
Each trough is a failed multiplayer game or 4k netflix stream.

so, interesting to hear you are having very similar problems as had been pointed out in this large thread:
http://forums.businesshelp.comcast.com/t5/Equipment-Modems-Gateways/COMCAST-Serious-Problems-with-all-Netgear-CG3000DCR-Gateway/td-p/5400/jump-to/first-unread-message
Like many there, replacing the gateway fixed the issue immediately. I will say I saw almost the same kind of thing you did.
Good to know. I will continue avoiding the Netgear.

Well, I wish I had done this months ago. I bought a Motorola SB6121. That Netgear is a terrible piece of kit. I'm going to be taking it back to Comcast and telling them to please not inflict it on anyone else. My network -- even my HOME network is like night and day since changing the router. I can actually reliably use it.
