Loss of speed with Dell 1703 wireless nic, Cisco DPC3939B router

We've had a good, stable system for a while now, with high speeds on all of our computers.

A couple of weeks ago (2-3?) the bottom dropped out for one of the computers. Throughput is down to 1 or less megabits/s. No problems can be detected. I attempted to roll back to a 3-4 week old restore point, with no effect. I reinstalled the drivers, no change. We downloaded updated drivers and motherboard bios, with no effect. Ran Dell's diagnosis software and repair software, no effect.

I then plugged in a Netgear USB NIC, and it works just fine at 50 megabits.

Questions:
did the gateway receive a bios update with the last 30 days?
has anyone else with a Dell system - and specifically a Dell 1703 network adapter - reported a similar problem?
has a solution been found?

I actually think that the Cisco gateway has received a firmware update recently, if talk on other forums is to be believed. I have not tested the gateway's wireless performance before or after the upgrade, as I use my own wireless access points.

that's a good idea. In the short term I've ordered another USB nic.
