Latency issues

We are currently on the 50/10 comcast business class internet service and have noticed lots of latency/lag issues with connectivity.  Our speed tests run fine, but any sustained usage (streaming/syncing files/gaming) is interrupted with periodic spikes of lag that cause connectivity issues with the services we are connected to.

We've tried to isolate if it's something within our network causing the issue -- but shutting down network access with all servers still does not clear up the problem.

Has anyone had luck tackling this type of issue before?

Thanks,

Kurt

I am having the same issue.  When I ping my VOIP provider I get a RT of about 80ms.  However, each 20 - 25 pings I get a return of 1050ms which is the reason for my phone issues.  Have done everything here but it seems to track to Comcast service.

I found this link:

Seems like issues with the comcast router, firmware maybe?

It wouldn't be uncommon to see spikes in latency when doing a sustained upload/download. I mainly see this when doing uploaded but certain downloads which max my connection cause similar issues.

Can you clarify on when this issue occurs? What exactly are you doing that causes it?
