Dynamic IP flagged by eBay

We are a charity, and sell used electronic items on eBay. One of our volunters used our internet connection to log into his eBay account which was blocked. As a result they assoicated the charity account with his and are not allow anything thing to be placed for sale from the ip address that is assigned to our router 66.229.190.252 (dynamic not static). We called comcast and they said they couldn't refresh the IP address. We unplugged the router for a day but it still came back up the same IP address. We took the router and hooked it up at a volunteers house and it pulled a different IP address but as soon as we returned it to the charity location the IP was still the same. Is there anyway to get this IP address to change? Please help.

changing the MAC address of the router will usually result in you obtaining a new IP address from Comcast. If your router provides you with a "Clone MAC Address" function, try using that - login to its configuration screens, usually at http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1. Click around the pages there until you find some sort of setting that will let you change its MAC address.

other than that, there really isn't a a way to initiate a change from your end. You can always leave the router unplugged for a week or so, and that would probably make your IP lease expire.

Sorry we have a SMC business router and this feature is locked. We tried that.

Have you tried contacting Ebay? They may be willing to clear the flag if you explain the situation.

Yes we have called eBay, and tried to fix it out, while I love eBay normally on this issue they are being difficult. They have connected the two accounts because of the IP and the person also put the address of the charity has his mailing address so they are treating the two of us the same. We need to change the IP address so we can move forward with our operation. We are trying to avoid getting a static IP just to fix this problem. We thought there would something that comcast could do. Of course the person we got on the phone, didn't seem to understand what he was doing. He was having us reset our internal IP addresses. I was hoping someone one here would have a simple solution.

Even if you got a static IP for a month and then removed it, it's not likely it'd fix the problem(though, it's worth a try). Since IPs change fairly regulary and knowing Ebay, they'll use a few techniques to flag an account. In cases like this, working with frontline support is pretty hard as they are trained to stand by company policy on these situations. Your best bet is to continue pursuing Ebay and trying to reach out to them via social media. Generally Twitter is effective to get your foot in the door.

We were going to try the Static IP address but it would renew or contract and change our rate. I would effectivally cost us an extra $40 a month, and extend our contract. There has got to be another way. Someone suggested switching our modem to one that we could force and IP change - would that work?
