Credit Card Machines, Ports, Event Logs & a Few Other Basic Questions
To whom it may concern,
Aside from the issues Comcast is having in my clients area I have a few quick questions.
- Using the Netgear CG300 modem I cannot for the life of me get Port Forwarding to work for port 443. I have searched and tried all different suggestions with no luck. DHCP is disabled on Gateway and is handled on Server. We have a credit card machine that cannot be connected as it is showing a failure to access port 443, 5003, 5000 and 8013. So.. coming from a hard reset, in that the only setting changed is disabling DHCP - if someone could walk me through how to open port 443 to IP 10.0.0.32 (I’m using Class-A address with /24 subnet. I like the “10.0.0.0” it’s just cleaner in my eyes) it would be much appreciated.
- How do I view event log on this modem? I have a Motorola Surfboard SB6183 and its clear as day where to find it
- I cannot seem to find an official list of blocked ports using Comcast’s Business Class tiered service. I always get directed to a “page not found” Anyone have a good link
Thank-you!

1. I don't have this modem, so I can't walk you through the steps, sorry. In general, I always tend to recommend using your own router if you have any remotely sophisticated networking needs - these leased gateways are usually only good for the basics. As well, I have noticed that firmware updates (which Comcast does automatically, without notice) tend to reset some or even ALL of the settings on the gateway periodically.
2. You cannot view any logs. The SMC & Netgear gateways are not advanced enough to allow this capability. The Cisco gateways I believe do allow you to view logs.

Perhaps someone can chime in on the necessary port forwarding steps.
