Comcast's Plans To Upgrade Speeds?

I find telephone support to be almost worthless these days, most of the time they cannot even answer a simple question.

After months of 'regularly scheduled maintenance' for Comcast to upgrade their network in my neighborhood (during business hours, none-the-less), I was told tonight via phone chat that current customers would not be upgraded to the new 'next gen' speeds automatically. I'm now in the 3rd year of my 3 year contract, so essentially paying the highest rates possible with Comcast/Xfinity, but Comcast is choosing to roll out 'next gen' speeds to NEW customers only? When I questioned the agent about this, she said the only way to get next gen speeds was to sign a new contract.  Thankfully, Frontier has run fiber to my building and I won't be needing Comcast/Xfinity after this contract; this just proves how little they value their customers.

I hope support reps here in the forums will provide additional details as to why this is the case and what Comcast/Xfinity's plan is.

@kmrnyc  Thanks for the post, the statement about how we value our customers is incorrect. The longer one is with us, the more value they get from their service and tenure.

The upgrades do require a current internet package. We've changed many of the packages and speeds recently, meaning you may need to get the new version if what you have is not current. You don't have to get a promotion with a contract, and can get a non contract agreement, or choose the everyday price if you prefer. That will update the service you have, and allow for the updated speeds! New customers will automatically have the updated speeds as the only packages they are presented with have the updated speeds included. Hope that helps!
