batch speedtest
Here's a simple way to periodically run speedtest: https://davidmenges.wordpress.com/2016/02/25/batch-speedtest .
With it I was able to produce this graph (green "Down$" is what we pay for, 150 Mbps; red "Down" is what we get, about a third, around the clock). To me it says yes, load during the day is noticeable, but there's little improvement at 3 AM (computer is plugged directly into extra port on Comcast device). Manual speedtests up to a few months ago always gave 150 Mbps.
