Since this issue was originally mentioned inside of a billing question, I would like to post it here iindependently  the hope of receiving the assistance you offered.

Also the public xfinitywifi is now disabled on the gateway.  The private wifi is still active at this time.  I recommend changing your access password  and restarting the gateway to ensure that only your allowed devices are connected.  Please let us know if further assistance is required.

Thank You

As suggested, I restarted my Gateway, several times in fact and the xfinitywifi is still fully operational!

I spoke with technical support and got the person to shut it down, but the next day it was back again in full force.

It re-spawns like a virus.

It used to be that one could disable this unwanted "feature" in the user preferences. The link to "manage" it is still there, but there's nothing to manage! That functionality was obviously removed and even your support team is powerless to fix it.

Is there any solution?

wimtek, thanks for the heads up on the endless spawning of the public hotspot. Our business will choose to disable wireless entirely on the Comcast router, because of this feature.

I was told on 6/5/14 by Comcast technical support that we cannot turn off the hotspot at our business without turning off all wireless services. That's contrary to what is stated for Comcast WiFi Home services. The Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot FAQs states:

"We encourage all subscribers to keep this feature enabled as it allows more people to enjoy the benefits of XFINITY WiFi around the neighborhood. You will always have the ability to disable the XFINITY WiFi feature on your Wireless Gateway by calling 1-800-XFINITY. You can also visit My Account at http://customer.comcast.com/, click on “Users & Preferences”, and then select “Manage XFINITY WiFi.”  (source, http://wifi.comcast.com/faqs.html)

Why can Home users self-control this feature and business customers cannot? Our business does not have public visitors, we don’t need or want this potentially risky feature.

Comcast, fix this.

I've had a similar experience with the Comcast Business and its public xfintity wifi.

I had to call tech support to have them turn the xfinity wifi off, but leave our private network active (an inconvenience in and of itself). They were able to accommodate me on this; I had access to our wifi network but no xfintiy wifi was broadcast or available.

The next day the public xfinity wifi was on again, not sure why or how. But when I called support to disable it, this time I was informed that we cannot have a private network active using the supplied router without a public network activated as well.

We are in a sensitive environment and it is not appropriate (or allowed) to have a freely available public network availble, though un-broadcast, private, more secure wifi connection would be allowed on occasion for temporary use. But if I have to go through Comcast every time I need to activate/deactivate the network it gets overly cumbersome.

Clearly Comcast’s equipment is capable of operating one without the other (seemingly easily managed on a home network, by the way). From what I can gather, Comcast is choosing not to allow this control for businesses users.

I just spoke with Support about this as well. Its a bunch of BS in my opinion. I am having them remove the model that has wireless and replacing with an ethernet only gateway that I can then add my own WiFi to it. I can't just have anyone who wants connecting to me. I have confidential clients who would drop me like a bad habbit if they knew I had a router anyone could access. Lame is all I have to say about it. Esp with no mention of it before signing up.

HI A-Smithee-7128.  It is possible to disable public WiFi on the Cisco Gateway and still have access to your private WiFi network.  At this time public WiFi accesson your has been disabled and the configuration saved to the device.

Please let us know if further assistance is needed with your WiFi device.

Thank You

I'm in the same boat, initially I could disable the xfinity hotspot, which I did because I am in a residential neighborhood with a homeowners that does not allow hotspots. I had what looks like a firmware upgrade and now I can't disable the xfinity hotspot from the router, there is no option. I need this disabled.
