Hello user_87b323, thank you for reaching out via Comcast Business Support here on our Forums. It sounds incredibly frustrating to see a "message waiting" indicator on your phone when there's no actual message there! I can imagine how annoying that little light or icon can be, especially when you've already checked everything. Thanks for reaching out about this.

Let's Try to Clear That "Message Waiting" Indicator

This is a pretty common hiccup, and it often just means your phone system needs a little refresh. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try that usually resolve this:

  1. Restart Your Phone (the actual device): Sometimes, a simple reboot of your mobile phone can clear out these kinds of phantom notifications. Turn it completely off, wait about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.

  2. Check All Voicemail Boxes: If you have multiple lines or extensions, or even an old voicemail box you rarely use, it's worth double-checking every single one, just in case a message slipped into an unexpected place.

  3. Dial Your Own Voicemail: Try calling your voicemail service directly (even if you don't hear a message, sometimes just accessing it can clear the indicator).

  4. Send Yourself a Voicemail: If possible, try calling your own number from another phone and leaving yourself a very short voicemail message. Then, access and delete that new message. This often "resets" the system and clears the old, stuck indicator.

If none of these steps work, it might indicate something more specific to your service or an issue that requires a deeper look on our end. Please let me know if you're still seeing that "message waiting" notification after trying these steps!

@Comcast_Christy

Thanks for the help.  I sent myself a vm and when I deleted it the message waiting sign went away!

this didn't work for our office. we have 4 phones, all with one shared voicemail box. the light is blinking and the screens all say 1 message but when we check voicemail, it says we have no new and no saved messages. i've tried leaving a new message to try to clear it like the other poster di but it didn't work for us. what do we do?

user_26f60e A blinking message light with 1 New Message on all phones, but no actual messages in the shared mailbox, is usually a stuck Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) rather than a real voicemail. The voicemail system and the phones are out of sync.

Here are some additional steps to try to clear it out.

Check ALL voicemail folders

Log into the shared voicemail box.
Listen for any messages marked as new, saved, urgent, or deleted.
Empty the deleted messages folder if available.

Leave and delete a test voicemail

Call the main number.
Leave a new message.
Access voicemail and delete it.
Exit voicemail completely and wait several minutes.

Power-cycle the phones

Unplug each phone for 30 seconds.
Plug them back in and allow them to fully register.

Check whether the MWI is stuck on one extension

If all four phones share the same mailbox, sometimes one phone retains the notification even after the message is cleared.
Restart each phone one at a time and note whether the light clears on any specific set.
