Is the ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB6183 supported for BCI

I was wondering is the ARRIS/MOTOROLA SB6183 is supported to use with Comcast Business Class Internet.

I recently changed to 50/15 and I am not seeing speeds above 30mbs when I connect straight to the SMC modem.  I am wondering if I should upgrade to a newer modem since it seems that the older SMC is not able to hit those speeds.  Any thoughts on this.

Also, I have 1 static IP.  Not sure if that will affect use of the new modem, if I purchase one.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  If there is anything that can be done to my current modem so that I don't have to purchase a new one would be even better.  Thanks

Michael

Hi selfser.  Currently the SB6183 is not on the approved list for Business Services.  We expect approval of this device in the very near future.  The SB6141 is the latest Motorola model approved as a customer owned device.

Re: Is the ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB6183 supported for BCI

Hi selfser.  The Motorola SB6183 is a standalone modem and cannot be configured with a Static IP.  For customers with Static IP address, Comcast requires router/gateway devices supplied by Comcast.  Currently the three approved devices are the Cisco DPC3939B, the Netgear CG3000DCR & the SMC Networks SMCD3G-CCR. Your speed tier & static IP requires a DOCSIS 3 router/gateway, your current device is DOCSIS 2 and will not provide 50/15 speeds.  The Business service can schedule a service call, at your convenience,to replace your current device with a DOCSIS 3 device,

Thanks for the reply Comcast John.  Quick question.  If I were to remove my static IP, since I haven't needed to use it for anything as of yet,  Would I then be able to use the SB6183 for my modem?
